"Nothing Gold Can Stay"

    Recently, a friend and I were working on a story together. I noticed that chapter 9 was titled "Nothing Gold can Stay". Puzzled, I read through the chapter, trying to find where she might have gotten that from (If you're like me, you always try to give chapters a title that reflects something in it). However, I couldn't find anything pertaining to gold or the banning of it, so I asked my friend about it.

As it turns out, "Nothing Gold Can Stay" is a poem by Robert Frost (you know, the guy who wrote "The Road Not Taken". You know how it goes. "Two roads diverged in a yellow wood..."). I had read some of his works before, but never this one. 

  

As you can see, this poem has quite the melancholy air about it. Bereaving what can be considered to be the short lifespan of the color of gold in nature, it ultimately reflects on how often purity is tainted when it is only hours old. 

It's a beautiful poem, really. Or maybe it's just me... idk i kinda like things that are sad but also comforting. Even though this poem comes across as a lament, it just gives me a hopeful feeling--there will always be next spring. :)

I'd like to introduce you to some of my books, ahem, WIPs, which will give you an interesting view into my crazy brain as well as help said crazy brain maybe get some of this straight to myself AIGHT LE'S GO

note these are in no particular order :>


1: The Sign of Royalty
Status: In progress
Basic plot: Two Elf siblings who may or may not be important ;) are adopted by an Elven ranger. They grow up with him and his son, until sOmEtHiNg happens and things almost go downhill but they're good eventually BUT THEN SOMETHING ELSE HAPPENS AND HECK, PEOPLE AREN'T ALWAYS WHO THEY  SAY THEY ARE  0_o
Favorite thing about this book: writing the siblings xD They're legit so awesome. Also Elves in general and cinnamon roll characters (who i could honestly squeeze to death because askjflkasjflk) and headstrong characters and ok I'm rambling ._.

2: The Jewel of Life
Status: In progress
Basic plot: There's a desert and a Phoenix and the Phoenix (who goes by "The Phoenix") has a best friend who is a cat named L'Kiu (pronounced like you say the letter Q, the L is silent) and then there's a mysterious illness and THE WORLD IS IN DANGER and adventures ensue and KNIVES
Favorite thing about this book: Well I haven't gotten too far into this one yet (it's relatively new), but I think my favorite thing about it is going to be either sICK KNIVES or writing the friendship between L'Kiu and the Phoenix who are cool dudes. I can't wait to have some time to work on this one lollll

3: Swanwing
Status: In progress
Basic plot: Basically a retelling of "The Wild Swans", if you haven't read it you need to, cuz it's amazing, here is a Wikipedia article, you're welcome :D https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wild_Swans
Favorite thing about this book: so. many. boys. babies and castles and kingdoms and brothers and fairytales oH MY

4: The Angel Story (a short story)
Status: Complete (wait what omg what is tHIS???)
Basic plot: When a little boy gets kidnapped, it's up to his Guardian Angel, the monster under the bed, and his favorite stuffed animal to rescue him-- enter hilarity, stage left :P
Favorite thing about this book: I got the idea for this book from a prompt from Pinterest, and it was super fun to write xD I think my favorite thing about it was Biscuits, the stuffed rabbit. He's British and hilarious xD It's not that great of a story, and I think it could use some work. It's the first short story I've ever written, but y'know, the first time isn't always the worst time :P This is also the first story I've ever completed, so yeah xD

I don't have a picture for this one ._. lol

Hey hey hey ma frens :D

So with the whole hype over the.... ugh I'm sick of even hearing the word... the COVID-19 disease, people are really starting to get down. I'm no exception. It is a sad fact that so many people are dying and that so many events are canceled. In truth, I'm still kinda sad about the fact that I did not get to wear my beautiful prom dress yesterday and dance all night with my friends.

But is that something that I really need to be focusing on?

Sure, feelings are natural. It's ok to, well, feel feelings. But when you let those feelings rule how you speak and act, that's when you know things have gotten out of hand.

one does not simply mope

Seriously though! With all the bad things happening in this broken world, we have to find the balance! If there are things in this world that are right, search them out! Write them down! Take a sharpie to your hand to remind yourself that you are blessed!

Some people do have harder lives than others. But EVERYWHERE, God's blessings can be seen. Sometimes you have to look really hard. Sometimes you have to dig very deep!

It is a tragedy that so many people die every day--from COVID-19 and other causes. But if you're reading this right now, you are still alive! What a blessing! :) Life is beautiful. So praise God for it!

God loves you! He made this beautiful world, and you are still alive in it! Thank Him for another day to sing His praises in your daily life!

Even though people die every day, even though things ARE wrong in this world, and even though, yes, sometimes we have to come to grips with things going against the will of God--we are not called to focus on the bad all the time!

Psalm 34 begins with these beautiful words:

I will bless the LORD at all times;

his praise shall be always in my mouth.

My soul will glory in the LORD;

let the poor hear and be glad.

Magnify the LORD with me;

and let us exalt his name together.

The February Post

Well. Keeping this New Year's Resolution is going easy. 😏

So how was your Valentine's Day  (since, as aforementioned, I am #ratherlatetothepartay)?

If it was lonely and full of watching chick-flicks and rom coms while eating straight out of the tub of ice cream... I feel you.

but seriously though I'd rather be watching movies and eating ice cream all the time, not just on valentine's AND NO, IT'S NOT HEALTHY. I KNOW. xD

Anyway, enough about feeling sorry for ourselves. 

Instead of focusing on what we didn't get for Valentine's Day (which, sadly, is all too easy to do), focus instead on what you gave. Giving is much better than getting, even though getting stuff like chocolate and cards is fun!

Doing something special for another is the best thing ever. And it makes one feel really great too. Seeing the smile on a sibling's face or the happy glow in a friend's cheeks just fills one with peace and joy. As the Prayer of St. Francis says: "For it is in giving that we receive". That, my friends, is where true peace starts. And when you find your piece---



--(sorry I had to xD ) then you won't be worrying about what you didn't get. :)


That being said, today is Mardi Gras!!! (or yesterday was, depending on when you read this)

I was so shocked to find out that some of my northern friends from my online school DIDN"T HAVE MARDI GRAS PARADES WHERE THEY LIVED? THAT MADE ME SAD?? ALSO THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT A CRAWFISH BOIL WAS??? i was like "omgosh y'all need to come down here RIGHT NOW. WE GON TREAT YOU RIGHT" xD


And tomorrow (or today), is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent! That being said, y'all probably won't see me in April (notlikeyoueverseemebutyougetthepoint:P). I know, I know, it was my nEw YeAr'S rEsOlUtIoN to post every month, but there have been some slight changes. 👉😎👉 😏

As I heard a DJ on the radio say recently, (and I'm paraphrasing because Junioritis, y'know) "No matter what happened in 2019, it is officially in the past."

That's so nice, right? Like, now we can start fresh! This year doesn't have to be like years past! This year, you can try something new! (like one of my friend's sisters, who donated 12 inches of her hair and she looks SO DIFFERENT--but ofc, still cute as ever 😊)

And that leads to...

nEw YeAr'S rEsOlUtIoNs

So, I don't usually make resolutions because... I... forget? *crowd boos* I know, I know. But this year I am making at lEaSt two resolutions. One of them is private, but the other is to post here at LEAST once a month. *yay*

Some people might say "gosh I don't make resolutions at all because I knOW I'm not going to be able to keep them". And that's fine. It's a free country, you don't have to make resolutions if you don't want to.

But think about this: why not make resolutions? Some of them are downright silly, let's be honest, but others push us to be better about meeting goals, being kind, keeping up with schoolwork... *sudden respiratory ailment*

And so what if you can't keep them? So maybe you fail one day. Maybe you forget to go for your morning run. But that's OnLy OnE dAy out of the whole year! Every day is new! You can make a resolution to keep your resolution (:P) each morning when you get out of bed. 

lol imagine if people celebrated every new day by doing fireworks and screaming HAPPY NEW DAY'S DAY in your face xD

So in this new year (IN WHICH WE ALL HAVE 2020 VISION BTW :P), remember that each day is a new day. You failed today? Try again tomorrow. :)

...eeeewwwwwwwwwww. Ok so both of these... people... are super weird. BUT. I feel like even though Denethor is super messsed-up (like. Who burns himself and his son alive.), I feel like he would be more respectful of me. Not so Mr. Wormtougue.



7.  ...attend Faramir's wedding or Samwise's wedding?

MUST I choose. *cries* I think... I think I'll go to the Shire and leave a present in Minas Tirith for Faramir and Eowyn. Because Sam. <3

Vehiron. He was perfectly described by my fellow author who said "he just seems like the kind of guy to just go outside at night, look up at the stars, and smile". <3 <3 <3

Oh man, I don't know!! OH YES I DO. Eucalypta the Dragonoid. SHE IS LIKE. PSYCHED. ABOUT EVERYTHING. ALL THE TIME. and she would totally dance in the rain.

and she would totally do this if she were Spiderman

3: Most likely to look good in a kilt
Ohhhhhhh boy. Coriander. He has a Scotty accent, so. That's a hands-down easy answer.

4: Most likely to get punched in the face
...also Coriander, because he's annoying and can be rude and sometimes doesn't know when to shut up BUT WE LOVE HIM ANYWAY.

5: Most likely to drop everything and become a shepherd
Um, I'm not too sure about this one. Cause like, all the characters from Relics are pretty tough people, aaaaaaand, I really don't know. I can't see any of them being shepherds, honestly...? xD Idk. Maybe Rilien and Calathiel because if they're with their daughter they don't care what they're doing (which is sweet).

6: Most likely to be found in a library
Lord Calanon. He. Luvs. Books. In fact, reading was his favorite pastime before *things* happened. And it's still his favorite pastime. :P

7: Most likely to sleep through an earthquake
Ok, I'd have to say Keystone the Rock Golem. He's like. So chill. 
But don't start fighting him because, as my other author friend put it, "he can be a total war god" xD
And maybe Delar would sleep through it too. 

8: Most likely to steal food from other people's plates
Also Coriander. He's a Master Thief. (so he says) And Delar too. He's my cheeky, snarky son and I LOVE HIM.

9: Most likely to say oops after setting something on fire
ZIR. OHMIGOSH ZIR. She is an absolute sweetheart and would be so horrified if she set something on fire.

THIS IS SO HER.

And if Eucalypta set something on fire she'd be like "Oh, did I do that? Sorry! I didn't mean to! But wow doesn't fire look cool! I like fire. Fire is so awesome, and when I used to get together with friends we'd always light a fire and have fun and dance around it. Oh! that reminds me, we have to have a party sometime soon. Yeah. A party. I like parties! They're great for making new friends. I like friends. Friends are so cool! Oh, by the way, I think I set something on fire." xD

10: Most likely to open an orphanage
Uhhhhh. I'd have to say... wow for some reason Rusa just came to mind. Which is odd because she's the fighter type. But hey, she's an orphan herself so... idk. 
AND WILLOW. She LOVES children, so I could see her doing that.

All of them?? Because like--they can FIGHT? But I think Rilien and Calathiel would do the best because, like, they are SUPER good at fighting, and what is cooler than being married when both of you can kick some serious stuff and are SO DARN COOL. LERKMFDSKL.

12: Most likely to fake their own death
Delar. King of Being Silly And Awesome At The Same Time. :P I love him.

13: Most likely to die and haunt their friends
Once again, Delar. He would totally do that for pranks. Especially on Arya. Because he likes her. :D
